Current Transformer 200/5A ESS
ESS 200/5 A current transformer
⚡ The ESS 200/5 A is a measuring current transformer designed to connect electricity meters, ammeters and monitoring equipment to circuits carrying currents up to 200 A.
It converts the primary current into a standard 5 A secondary measuring current.
🔢 Meaning of 200/5 A
- 200 A — rated primary current;
- 5 A — rated secondary current;
- transformation ratio — 40:1.
Meter readings must be multiplied by 40 when this ratio is not programmed into the meter or AMR system.
🎯 Accuracy
Current transformers rated 200/5 A commonly use accuracy class 0.5 and a 5 VA burden. Confirm the exact values from the ESS product marking.
🏭 Applications
- electricity meters with 5 A inputs;
- electrical switchboards;
- industrial facilities;
- retail and warehouse installations;
- AMR systems;
- ammeters and measuring relays;
- commercial and technical metering.
🔌 Three-phase metering
A three-phase installation normally requires three identical 200/5 A current transformers, one for each phase.
🛡️ Critical safety rule
Never open the S1–S2 secondary circuit while primary current is flowing.
Before disconnecting the meter, the secondary circuit must be short-circuited through an appropriate test terminal block.
✅ Key advantages
- converts 200 A to a standard 5 A output;
- 40:1 transformation ratio;
- compatible with electricity meters rated for 5 A;
- suitable for three-phase metering;
- no separate power supply required;
- can be integrated into AMR systems;
- ESS Electrical Solutions brand.
⚠️ Important: confirm the accuracy class, VA burden, aperture size and mounting configuration from the actual stocked ESS unit.
