Uzbekistan: fine for filling household LPG cylinders at vehicle stations

Taking a household gas cylinder to a vehicle LPG station is a familiar workaround for some residents. From 5 February 2027, supplying LPG into household cylinders at these stations will carry a specific fine. Here is what changes and how official household supply works.

What changes, and when?

Law No. ZRU-1186 was signed on 2 November 2026. It introduces a fine of 3–5 basic calculation units for supplying consumers with liquefied petroleum gas in household cylinders at vehicle LPG filling stations. The new sanction takes effect on 5 February 2027 and is not yet applicable.

How much is the fine in soums?

At the current basic calculation unit of UZS 440 000, the range is UZS 1 320 000–2 200 000. The law sets the fine in basic calculation units, so its equivalent in soums will change if that unit changes.

Is owning a household cylinder an offence?

No. This new provision concerns supplying gas into household cylinders at a vehicle filling station. Using a household cylinder at home is not itself the act described. Do not assume that every resident bringing a cylinder will automatically face a UZS 2 200 000 fine. Any other potential breach must be assessed separately.

How to obtain gas through the official system

Residents of areas without piped natural gas can apply for the household-cylinder public service at a Public Services Centre or through my.gov.uz. After conditions have been checked and a positive conclusion issued, agreements cover temporary use of a cylinder and LPG supply. This is a different route from independently filling a household cylinder at a vehicle station.

What if you have a cylinder but deliveries are late?

Ask your gas supply organisation to confirm the delivery schedule and the terms of your agreement. Do not treat a vehicle LPG station as a substitute for official delivery. Keep the reference number and the supplier’s reply to help follow up delays or disputed charges.

Avoid unsafe workarounds

Do not transfer LPG between cylinders yourself or use improvised filling equipment. To detect propane-butane leaks, choose an alarm explicitly rated for that gas. A methane-only or carbon-monoxide-only detector is not automatically a suitable substitute.
