Will gas cylinders cost 2.5 times as much?

UZS 100,000 for 20 kg of gas instead of UZS 40,000? That is what the proposed household LPG price would mean. Here are the figures, the proposed compensation and the details still awaiting a final decision.

Checked: October 20, 2026. Based on available reporting about the draft.

When could the price change?

The Ministry of Economy and Finance has published a draft resolution for discussion. Moving from UZS 2,000 to UZS 5,000 means a 150% increase: the price would be 2.5 times its previous level.

Explanatory materials and most reports refer to November 1, 2026. Gazeta.uz notes a discrepancy: the draft text names October 1, while the explanatory materials name November 1. The date should therefore be treated as provisional. Vzglyad reports that public discussion is scheduled to run until October 28.

💰 What would households pay?

Gas massAt UZS 2,000/kgProposed: UZS 5,000/kgIncrease
10 kg20,00050,000+30,000
20 kg40,000100,000+60,000
30 kg60,000150,000+90,000

Schetchik.uz calculations. All amounts in UZS, for gas only. Kilograms refer to fuel mass, not cylinder capacity in litres. Cylinder purchase and separately charged services are excluded.

A household using 20 kg each month would spend an additional UZS 60,000 monthly. Over 12 months, with unchanged consumption and prices, the difference would be UZS 720,000 before compensation.

Who could receive compensation?

The draft proposes UZS 3,000 per kilogram purchased, covering up to 20 kg per month. The maximum would be UZS 60,000 per household monthly. The support is proposed to run until January 1, 2030.

  • Households in the Social Register;
  • households outside the register meeting the relevant need criteria, with average monthly income per person no higher than twice the minimum consumer expenditure;
  • families with orphaned children or children without parental care.

Compensation would not be automatic for every LPG user. Eligibility and the purchase would need to be confirmed.

What would the cost be after reimbursement?

Monthly purchaseProposed gas costCompensation if eligibleCost after reimbursement
10 kg50,00030,00020,000
20 kg100,00060,00040,000
30 kg150,00060,00090,000

For eligible households buying up to 20 kg monthly, the proposed reimbursement would offset the full difference between the two gas prices. Purchases above 20 kg would not attract further compensation under this formula.

Budgeting matters: payment is proposed after purchase confirmation. UZS 40,000 for 20 kg is the net cost after reimbursement, rather than a promised discounted payment at the point of purchase.

How would families apply?

The proposed channels include public services centres, Inson social services centres, mahalla social workers, the public services portal and the Social Card app. Funds would be transferred to a social card after checks. Final procedures and the actual application launch should be checked after the resolution is adopted.

Should UZS 1,300/kg for delivery be added?

Reports separately mention a proposed delivery-service ceiling of UZS 1,300 per kilogram, including VAT. Vzglyad explains that this figure also appears as an operator allowance in the calculation of a budget subsidy.

It would therefore be premature to automatically quote UZS 6,300/kg as the household price without a confirmed payment procedure. Our tables cover gas only. Ask the supplier to specify fuel mass, the applicable price and any separately charged services.

What can households do now?

  • Check receipts to establish monthly LPG purchases in kilograms.
  • Keep purchase confirmations and subscriber details.
  • If support may apply to your household, ask an Inson centre about eligibility and application timing.
  • Check the final official resolution: the proposal can still change.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Click or tap a question to reveal the answer ↓

Does the proposal concern the cylinder itself or the gas inside?

It concerns the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) inside household cylinders. The proposed per-kilogram price is for the fuel, not the purchase of an empty cylinder.

What does “2.5 times as much” mean?

The proposal would increase the gas price from UZS 2,000 to UZS 5,000 per kilogram. That is an additional UZS 3,000 per kilogram, or a 150% increase.

How much would 20 kg of gas cost under the proposal?

At the proposed price, 20 kg would cost UZS 100,000, compared with UZS 40,000 at UZS 2,000/kg. These figures cover the gas only, excluding any separately charged services.

How could the proposed compensation help eligible households?

The proposed reimbursement is UZS 3,000 per kilogram for up to 20 kg per month, with a maximum of UZS 60,000 monthly. For an eligible household buying 20 kg, this would reduce the gas cost from UZS 100,000 to UZS 40,000 after reimbursement.

Would support also cover a purchase of less than 20 kg?

Yes, under the proposed formula. For example, an eligible purchase of 10 kg would attract UZS 30,000 in compensation. The proposed gas cost of UZS 50,000 would therefore become UZS 20,000 after reimbursement.

Is reimbursement the same as a discount when buying gas?

No. The proposal describes payment after the purchase has been confirmed. Households should distinguish the amount paid when buying gas from the final cost after receiving compensation.

Are kilograms of gas the same as cylinder capacity in litres?

No. Kilograms measure the mass of gas purchased, while litres describe the cylinder’s internal capacity. Use the gas mass shown on the purchase confirmation when calculating costs.

Does this proposal change the tariff for metered pipeline gas?

No. The proposal discussed here concerns household LPG supplied in cylinders. It should not be treated as a change to the tariff for natural gas supplied through a pipeline and measured by a gas meter.

How can households prepare their monthly gas budget?

Check receipts to establish your usual consumption in kilograms, then multiply that amount by the applicable price per kilogram. Keep gas costs and separately charged services separate, and record any compensation only when eligibility and payment are confirmed.
