Ultrasonic Hot Cold Water Meter | Ultramer Dn-80
Ultramer DN80 ultrasonic meter for cold and hot water
💧 The Ultramer DN80 is an electronic flanged water meter designed to measure instantaneous flow and accumulated water volume in pipelines with a nominal diameter of 80 mm.
It is intended for industrial facilities, commercial properties, apartment buildings, distribution networks and other sites requiring accurate commercial or technical water metering.
🔊 How ultrasonic measurement works
Sensors transmit ultrasonic signals both with and against the direction of water flow. The electronic unit compares the signal transit times, determines water velocity and calculates instantaneous flow and total accumulated volume.
There is no impeller or turbine inside the measuring channel, so the meter has no moving measuring components that can seize because of sand, rust or mechanical wear.

🚰 Cold and hot water
Schetchik.uz classifies the meter as a universal model for cold and hot water. However, the main product page lists an operating temperature of only +5 to +50 °C.
The Ultramer DN80 meter-and-modem kit page lists a different range of 0 to +90 °C. This may refer to another modification or may be a product-page error.
Until the passport of the specific meter is checked, the recommended listed range is +5 to +50 °C. Suitability for water hotter than +50 °C must be confirmed by the passport and product marking.
📊 Data provided by the meter
- total accumulated water volume;
- instantaneous water flow;
- service parameters and meter status;
- integrated power-source status, when supported by the specific version;
- data for an external controller or supervisory system.
The availability of a data archive, event log, temperature measurement and additional diagnostic parameters must be confirmed from the passport of the specific version.
🏭 Applications
- manufacturing facilities;
- water utilities and distribution networks;
- shopping and business centres;
- residential complexes and apartment buildings;
- hotels and administrative properties;
- technical water-supply systems;
- agriculture and irrigation;
- commercial metering stations for legal entities;
- automated water-consumption monitoring systems.
📡 RS-232, RS-485 and remote metering
RS-232 and RS-485 are wired communication interfaces. They allow the meter to send data to a compatible controller, modem, computer or supervisory-control system.
RS-485 is convenient for industrial automation and can connect several devices to one communication line when compatible protocols and equipment are used.
The presence of RS-232 or RS-485 does not mean that the meter transmits data over the internet by itself. A separate GSM/GPRS modem is required for mobile-network communication.
Remote reading can be arranged using the Ultramer CPIM RS232 U modem or the ready-made Ultramer DN80 meter-and-modem kit.
🛡️ What IP68 protection means
IP68 means that the enclosure is fully protected against dust ingress and can remain in prolonged contact with water within the conditions defined by the manufacturer.
This protection is particularly useful for installation in:
- damp basements;
- water-meter chambers;
- technical rooms;
- areas at risk of temporary flooding;
- outdoor metering stations with additional protection against freezing and mechanical damage.
The IP68 rating applies to a correctly assembled meter. Cable glands, connectors and connection points must also be sealed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
🔋 Autonomous power supply
The meter operates from an integrated battery or battery pack and does not require a permanent 220 V mains connection.
The actual power-source life depends on:
- battery type and capacity;
- measurement frequency;
- data-transmission frequency;
- ambient temperature;
- connected communication equipment;
- operating conditions.
Before ordering, confirm the estimated battery life and whether the power source can be replaced.
🔩 DN80 flanged connection
The meter is installed between companion flanges in a DN80 pipeline. When selecting installation components, consider not only the diameter but also the pressure rating, flange standard, number of bolt holes and meter installation length.
Installation may require DN80 PN16 companion flanges, gaskets, bolts, nuts and washers. Compatibility with PN16 flanges must be confirmed from the meter passport.
🧹 Protection against contaminants
Although an ultrasonic meter has no impeller, installation of a coarse filter upstream is recommended. The filter captures sand, rust, pipe scale and larger debris that may contaminate the measuring channel and affect stable system operation.
A compatible DN80 PN16 cast-iron mesh filter can be used for a DN80 pipeline.
➡️ Installation requirements
- the arrow on the housing must point in the direction of water flow;
- the pipeline at the measuring point must remain completely full;
- large amounts of air must not accumulate in the measuring section;
- the meter must not be used as a support for the pipeline;
- the flanges must be aligned and must not apply mechanical load to the housing;
- straight pipe sections upstream and downstream must comply with the passport;
- installation of a mesh filter upstream is recommended;
- the electronic unit and cable must be protected from impact and damage;
- a leak test must be performed after installation;
- commercial metering requires valid verification and sealing.
Installation must be carried out by a qualified specialist in accordance with the project, meter passport and requirements of the water-supply organisation.
